Road and dirt roads. A road bike with 30-35mm tires is appropriate; a gravel bike may be too slow unless you're exceptionally strong. Moving pace of 21+ mph.
Steady pace with some spirited sections, followed by brief regroups. There is no intention to drop anyone, but there is no sweep or mechanical support, so know the route and be self-sufficient.
Yes, without exception. Every rider signs the waiver once a year. Sign it and you are covered for every shop ride until it renews.
What should I bring?+
A working bike, supplies to fix a flat, and something to eat. Helmets are required, no exceptions. Lights for safety.
What time does it actually leave?+
Time listed is roll-out time. Wheels are moving. Get there early if you need to fill out a waiver, socialize, drink coffee, have a dance party, etc.
What if I am slower than everyone else?+
Someone is the slowest on every ride. Somebody finishes last in the Tour de France, despite being a freakish physical specimen. We are all learning. The goal is fun and improvement. There is nothing we like to see more than someone progressing from the back of the group to the middle and front of the group. if that is your goal. If you're happy at the back, we're happy to have you there.
On no-drop gravel rides, the expectation is that participants will be able to sustain ~14 mph on gravel and ~16 mph on the road. Someone will be assigned to sweep and we will regroup frequently.
On rides that are not no-drop, the intention is not to drop anyone, but to maintain a pace that is fun and challenging. As different riders possess different levels of ability and fitness, Zone 2 for one person is Zone 5 for someone else. We will do our best to balance the pace for all members of the group, but we may have to let some people do their own pace, either off the front or off the back. Please plan on being able to navigate home solo if necessary and have supplies for common mechanicals.
If you're not sure that your pace is a match for a particular ride, call or email the shop and I'll try to make an honest recommendation.
The rest of the week
There is probably another one that suits you better.
